Basecone.

Basecone gives the accountant or small business owner a clever and time-efficient way to process invoices, purchase orders, and expense claims. My task was to design a complete experience to upload and authorize documents in the Basecone app.

The objective.

Until recently, Basecone offered its users, besides the main web application, the use of two different native phone apps: Spenser to upload invoices, purchase orders, and expense claims and Flux; to authorize these documents and send them to the main administration for booking.

My job was to design one new Basecone app that offers all of the previous features, already optimized where possible and with a completely new design based on the Wolters Kluwer design system.

The challenge.

With the time pressure of decommissioning the two separate apps, I had to be very critical and conscious of what (parts of) the features needed a design makeover most, either visually or behavior-wise.

The two older, to be decommissioned, apps and the web application were designed with a unique look & feel for Basecone. Since Wolters Kluwer commissioned Basecone two years ago, I was given the task to also apply the Wolters Kluwer design system.

Research.

With little or no previous user research done for the app's features and overall flow, I saw the need to conduct several zero measurement surveys. Based on the outcome of these studies, future changes made to the app's design and flow would then more easily be tested and the outcome compared to the results of the zero measurement surveys.

The outcome.

All features from the two decommissioned apps integrated into one new app, fully compliant with the Wolters Kluwer design system.
